Starting from September 1st, 2026 Microsoft will make Passkeys the default authentication method for Entra ID users. They will then go on to retire SMS and voice for authentication.
𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴?
SMS and Voice are the most vulnerable methods for phishing attempts. Moving to a more phishing-resistant method will improve security for your organisation and make logins quicker.
𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗼?
Watch out for prompts to set up a passkey upon signing in, follow the on-screen steps to setup your passkey. Once your passkey is ready, stop using SMS and voice authentication to login.
