Microsoft has just released critical emergency out-of-band (OOB) updates to address major issues caused by the January 2026 Patch Tuesday security updates.

Current Emergency Updates

Microsoft issued these fixes on January 17–18, 2026, to resolve “breaking” problems where PCs failed to shut down and remote connections were blocked.

  • Windows 11 (Versions 25H2, 24H2): Update KB5077744.
  • Windows 11 (Version 23H2): Update KB5077797.
  • Windows Server 2025/2022/2019: Various KB updates (e.g., KB5077793 for Server 2025).

Issues Fixed:

  • Shutdown/Hibernation Failures: Devices with “Secure Launch” enabled would restart instead of shutting down or hibernating.
  • Remote Desktop (RD) Errors: Sign-in and authentication failures during Remote Desktop connections (error 0x80080005).

Are you sure you’ve got adequate protection and updates in place on your devices? If not, we’re here!
