What do you do if you saved a file but now can’t find it? Well here’s some tips!
You all know to search your file explorer for the file but that can be extremely slow and tedious so let’s focus on other options…
1) What program did you use?
If you edited and saved the file using a program like Word, Excel or even notepad, the apps have an “Open recent” feature where you can browse your most recently saved documents. Bad news is, if it’s not there then it likely wasn’t saved at all so you’ll need to recover an unsaved document! (Consult with us)
2) Check the save location
Most apps you use will have a default save location which you can check to see if your file is there. Don’t know where the default save location is? Create a new document in that app, go to save it and take a look to see which folder it is defaulting to.
3) Last resort… please speak to us (IT Admins) beforehand.
There are software which your IT admins (AmbroTech) can temporarily install for you which offers very fast, very thorough searching across your entire computer’s drives to locate a file. Please do not try this yourself as it has cyber-security implications and needs to be uninstalled or locked down properly afterwards.
