I’ve been working with a very special client recently who wanted a system to capture their business data from their regional directors around the UK to centralise information regarding their clients and project briefs.
Originally, they approached me asking for assistance with fixing/modifying a spreadsheet template someone had made which they were going to duplicate for every regional director because they don’t want data leakage between regions. Then any changes/modifications needed would have had to be applied to every single one of those spreadsheets… nightmare. Sorry client but my recommendation is to write off this endeavour and start afresh with a web application! It’s not often I make this call but it was genuinely in their best interest.
Fast forward to a week or so ago, they’re really happy with how their web application works, captures all the data they need, validates it to make sure regional directors aren’t cutting corners or making mistakes, displays the information and the analytics in a very simple and intuitive way and most of all, they were impressed with the speed at which this had been achieved and the maintainability of the web application means that costs are low and convenience is sky high.
“But wait… can it do more? I know it’s just for capturing data but could we expand this to track the status of our projects, generate and auto-email invoices to our clients, formulate exports for our accountants each week etc?”
They began to realise the power and scalability of what we had built together and were more than happy to invest more funds to build a platform that they’re proud to call their own. It was so rewarding to see and hear this.
