From 14 seconds to 1!

So I’ve been working very hard on a client’s website recently. They unfortunately found themselves victim to overseas developers with poor attention to security, speed and user experience which is definitely not the first time I’ve heard of.

Their website was taking an average of 14 seconds to load ANY page because of the amount of redundant code that was running. I was able to cut down the code to be so much more efficient and reduce the load time for pages to an average of 1-2 seconds – to reduce it any further, they’d be looking at a complete overhaul of the site which is out-of-budget at the moment.

Their website’s image files were taking up about 35GB of space which meant that opening the media library in WordPress took forever, so did trying to manage and migrate the site. I was able to run scripts and tools and reduce the site’s size to about 5GB in total which was an immense improvement.

There were bits of strange code everywhere with one line that just said “// hey” – developers using my client’s website to chat to eachother? Ridiculous. The majority was AI-generated code too, I could tell because AI also generates handy comments to explain the code but it’s not really appropriate to leave in a client site…

Just an all-round bombshell which took many hours but now is in a decent place and a business which was likely going under is now back in full swing with an email migration next in the pipeline!

That’s what I do at AmbroTech so if you’re in a pickle, please give me a shout because I am proven to save people from disaster.
