I can almost guarantee you’re paying for software you don’t need. There’s nothing more telling about the value of an IT partner than when it comes to saving money on your IT & software spend.
Function duplication: You could be paying for a dedicated software which performs a function that already exists in your current software portfolio. For example, if you’re paying for Calendly but you don’t use the payment features etc; then perhaps Microsoft Bookings (free with 365 Business Basic+) is a more effective way to manage your calendar?
Expansion/compression: As your business grows, there may be new opportunities so save money by switching providers for a better quantity discount on software licenses or changing the type of license you’re using for front-line staff who don’t require the same functions as your admin staff. Likewise, if you’ve managed to compress your business, thriving with less staff than before then perhaps you forgot to downscale your number of emails/backups/managed assets?
Overcomplication: Depending on how your business is run, you may suffer from certain departments using their budget in a way they’re really happy with because it makes their life easier, but perhaps they don’t need to be paying £30/month for a bulk photo renaming program when the same can be achieved for free with some technical know-how.
How can you mitigate these blockers to further profitability? It’s as simple as just talking things through and reviewing your spend, shadow IT and Knowledgebases with your IT department. We at AmbroTech, for example, have a quarterly or annual meeting with our clients to make sure we keep on top of these unsightly figures!
